{"id":611,"date":"2013-04-08T13:14:58","date_gmt":"2013-04-08T13:14:58","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/qfuse.com\/blog\/?p=611"},"modified":"2013-10-27T02:39:16","modified_gmt":"2013-10-27T02:39:16","slug":"qr-code-case-study-magic-hat-brewery","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/qfuse.com\/blog\/qr-code-case-study-magic-hat-brewery\/","title":{"rendered":"QR Code Case Study: Magic Hat Brewery"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><a href=\"http:\/\/qfuse.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/04\/magic-hat.png\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignright size-medium wp-image-612\" alt=\"magic hat\" src=\"http:\/\/qfuse.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/04\/magic-hat-165x300.png\" width=\"165\" height=\"300\" \/><\/a>Magic Hat Brewery is located in South Burlington Vermont, and they have a great track record of how to market and advertise generally and how to do so to their target consumer; so it is no surprise to me that they have been using QR codes for a while and using them well.<\/p>\n<p>I was recently in Burlington, VT and picked up one of their latest marketing brochures to be used as a case study on how to use, or not use, QR codes.<\/p>\n<p>I have seen other QR code uses by Magic Hat in the past, some were good, others were not (they used to have their codes directed to their <a href=\"http:\/\/qfuse.com\/learning\/mobile-content-vs-desktop-content\">desktop website home page instead of a mobile optimized version<\/a>).\u00a0 This particular QR code was done very well, so let\u2019s take a look at what they did right.<\/p>\n<h2>What Magic Hat Did Right<\/h2>\n<p>First, you will notice that the <a href=\"http:\/\/qfuse.com\/learning\/qr-code-best-practices\">QR code stands out well enough <\/a>and <a href=\"http:\/\/qfuse.com\/blog\/developing-a-call-to-action-for-your-qr-code\/\">a call to action exists<\/a>, though maybe not the most interesting call to action you will ever see as it simply says \u201cScan here for more info.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The main purpose of the marketing brochure is to a<strong>dvertise for their brewery tours, hoping to attract visitors of the area like myself.<\/strong>\u00a0 The marketing brochure is only so big and can only fit so much information on the two sides, so what Magic Hat did was include a QR code that potential visitors can scan \u201cfor more info\u201d.\u00a0 So despite it not being the most interesting reason to scan it is probably very relevant to someone looking at the brochure.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Upon scanning you are then taken to a <a href=\"http:\/\/qfuse.com\/learn-more\/mobile-showcase\">fantastic looking mobile optimized site<\/a><\/strong> (no longer are they using their desktop site as the landing page! Yay!).\u00a0 Here you are provided with some history and information about the brewery, <strong>information about free guided tours, summer and winter hours, directions, a link to a map<\/strong>, a list of their current beers on tap, as well as contact information.\u00a0 Everything that a visitor of Burlington might need is accessible by scanning the QR code and is a perfect use of the technology even if it isn\u2019t the most exciting use of it.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/qfuse.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/04\/magic-hat-mobile.png\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignright size-medium wp-image-613\" alt=\"magic hat mobile\" src=\"http:\/\/qfuse.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/04\/magic-hat-mobile-201x300.png\" width=\"201\" height=\"300\" srcset=\"https:\/\/qfuse.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/04\/magic-hat-mobile-201x300.png 201w, https:\/\/qfuse.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/04\/magic-hat-mobile.png 351w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 201px) 100vw, 201px\" \/><\/a>With QR codes you want to give the potential target exactly what it is they might want at the time they scan the QR code.\u00a0 In this case what the target would likely want is simply more information, and so that is what Magic Hat provided.<\/p>\n<p>Think about what your target audience might want or need and link them to a relevant landing page, and don\u2019t forget to include a call to action, a <a href=\"http:\/\/qfuse.com\/learning\/mobile-landing-pages\">mobile optimized page<\/a> and adherence to all the other <a href=\"http:\/\/qfuse.com\/index.php?\/learning\/qr-code-best-practices\">QR code best practices<\/a>. \u00a0It&#8217;s also <a href=\"http:\/\/qfuse.com\/features\/qr-code-analytics\">useful to track QR code scan analytics<\/a> and the <a href=\"http:\/\/qfuse.com\/features\/mobile-site-analytics\">visitor engagement information from the mobile site<\/a>.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Magic Hat Brewery is located in South Burlington Vermont, and they have a great track record of how to market and advertise generally and how to do so to their target consumer; so it is no surprise to me that they have been using QR codes for a while and using them well.
